The first is what Swissgear refers to as their Comp-u-Flex pocket which is specially designed to hold your laptop and protect it from getting damaged during walks between class or to the library.  Most Swissgear models listed below all fit up to a 17 inch laptop which is great!  This for me is the best feature and it should be for you as well considering you most likely spent a lot of money and time looking through all the laptops for students that are out there.

The next Swissgear computer backpack feature I love is the Air-Flow Back Padding.  This feature does exactly what you’d think and that’s keep your back dry even when you’ve got your computer backpack completely loaded full of school books and electronics.  I was a little skeptical about this feature and while I can’t say you don’t get a little sweaty, it’s definitely better than your standard backpack.

Shock Absorbing Shoulder Straps – When I was looking through all the computer backpacks out there this was a feature that wasn’t just a “nice to have”, but a requirement.  I hurt my shoulder in high school and ever since I get sore shoulders easily so having a padding computer backpack to help distribute the weight of a laptop and books was a must.

These are only a couple feature that Swissgear computer backpacks have.  I didn’t even mention the Quik Pocket which holds your MP3 player or iPod or the front pocket which has a great organizer pocket to keep track of pens, pencils, and small gadgets.  Some other really unknown features are a pocket for your credit cards or wallet and  a clip to hook your keys on so they don’t accidentally fall out of your computer backpack or even worse get stolen.

It’s not really a choice of which computer backpack to get for me, because it’s a Swissgear.  The real question becomes what style and color do I want.  Swissgear makes their laptops bags in a wide variety of cool colors.  Two of the more popular colors are black and blue, but they even have a nice looking pink one for the girls.  No matter which Swissgear backpack you choose, I’m sure you’ll be happy and your laptop or notebook will be too.

If you are looking for one of the best laptops under $500 however then some of the ones below might be a better fit.  These are all pulled from the top best laptops under $500 dollars on Amazon.  It appears that the Compaq at the bottom has jumped up in price however for some odd reason.

These laptops under 500 range a lot in size.  The Toshiba Satellite T215 at the bottom right is a very nice laptop that is packed with performance in an incredibly small size, 11.6 inches to be exact.  Most other models fall into the most common laptop size of 15.6 inches which really is the perfect size when you’re considering laptops for students.  I personally own two Lenovo laptops and have been very happy with both of them.  Their new Ideapad line is great and the G550 is no exception.

It’s really hard though to justify spending more money on a laptop than you absolutely need to and with the eMachines eME527-2537 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) – $279 currently available at such a great price on amazon with a 4.5 star rating I’m not sure I can recommend that you spend MORE money unless you are sure you need a specific option that isn’t included with the eMachine.  So here is a quick rundown on my suggestion as the best laptop under $500.

The Compaq V2000 is mainly designed and apt for home users and students and it is inexpensive as compared to other light weight computers. The Presario V2000 comes integrated with a Pentium M 725 and this range starts at $1000. The Presario V2000 is a good multimedia machine. This computer can be customized as per our desire except that we cannot upgrade the integrated graphics.

It is possible to upgrade the RAM and other drives to get a better speed. The Presario V2000 comes with a good widescreen that is 14-inch with BrightView and the JBL pro speakers.

This computer is portable and very compact suiting to our need and requirements. They weigh around 5.21 lbs and the size is precisely 13.15”x9.1”x1.53” . This computer is resilient and tough though it is made of plastics. These can very easily fit in to most of the standard sized backpacks.

The computer casing of the Presario V2000 laptop is made of shatterproof plastic. The outer shell of the black and silver computer looks sturdy and strong. This has the matte finish and a faintly rough texture. The hinges look durable enough for a long term use and they are also constructed with a similar material. However, we would not face any problems with the Presario V2000 shell.

Although the keyboard looks stiff, the keys are of regular size and not shallow. The keypad is pseudo numeric and the volume control is placed near to the Power button rather than residing as a function key. The sound system of this computer is above average.  The Compaq Presario v2000 drivers are fairly easy to find on the website if needed, but they do come preinstalled when you purchase the laptop.

The LCD display for this computer is unlocked on depressing the button “Compaq”. The laptops aesthetic looks get a boost with the status lights. They are elegant to look at and fit the style perfectly.

The Presario V2000 makes use of very low power Pentium M. This uses only 21W. As a result the fan is OFF and the computer is very silent. The V2000 never gets very hot but it gets warm after extensive use.  The Compaq Presario v200 battery is also really good and should last long enough for most peoples needs.

The touch pad for this computer is very well built. There are buttons that can turn the touch pad ON or OFF. This is a desirable feature and the Compaq Presario V2000 comes with it.  As far as laptops for students go it’s a great choice.

This Dell Inspiron is a nice 10inch laptop that is $379.99 new, but Amazon currently has 5 of them used for $200.  If you’re looking for a laptop under $200 that’s probably the first one I’d look at.  Here is what Amazon had to say about the Inspiron Mini 10.

With all these $200 laptops you need to realize that they aren’t going to be as fast or nice as a Apple Macbook or anything, but they are still very capable.  You also have the choice of going locally and heading straight for Craigslist, but I’d personally feel more comfortable buying a laptop under $200 from Amazon than a random person.  As with the search for any priced laptop they can be hard to find, but remember $200 laptops are out there.

For instance if you are interested in purchasing a business laptop for yourself, you could omit certain features like the graphics etc. The features on which you have to focus would be the battery life of the system, the speed of the processor and certain features which you would be working on regularly. In case the laptop you are purchasing is for a student, you could compromise on the processor speed as you would not be running many programs at a time.

The ASUS Eee PC 1005HA costs about 356 dollars. It comes with 10 hours battery life with great speed and performance. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc come along with it. The screen is 10.3 x 7 inches and it weighs about 2.9 pounds. It is portable and extremely easy to use for all purposes.

ACER ASPIRE AS1410 costs 399 dollars; it is a stylish laptop which comes with great processor speed and memory. The screen size is 8 x 11.2 x 1.2 inches and weighs about 3.1 pounds in weight. It is light in weight and easy to carry.

ASUS EEE PC 1101HA costs 359 dollars and has a battery life up to 11 hours. Bluetooth and sleeve case come along with it. It has great processor speed, good memory and reasonable hard drive space. The over all dimensions are 11.3 x 7.7 x 1.4 inches and it weighs about 3 pounds.

Lenovo 3000 N200
The Lenovo 3000 N200 model is the particular model I own and love. It’s got a Intel Core Duo processor in it instead of the Celeron found in a lot of laptops. It came in two different sizes, the 14.1 inch and the 15.4 inch. I opted to get the 15.4 inch model, but looking back having a slightly smaller screen would of been worth it for the ease of carrying it around.

Lenovo 3000 N100
The Lenovo 3000 N100 is quite a bit like the N200, so much so in fact that you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference just by looking at them. The Lenovo 3000 N100 did have a slightly larger harddrive (120GB instead of 80GB) and it also has a slightly faster processor (1.86Ghz vs 1.8Ghz).

Lenovo 3000 G530
The G530 model was a great laptop as well. It’s got very similar specs to the other sub models as you’ve probably started to notice. It came with an even larger than the N100 and N200 models. You had the option of 160GB or 250GB with 2 or 3GB of RAM. It’s also got a nice 6 cell battery that was rated at 4.5 hours.

Lenovo 3000 N500
I actually don’t know a lot about the Lenovo 3000 N500. From the little I’ve looked into it it’s almost the exact same at the G530, with the exception of the battery which is only rated at 3.8 hours compared to the G530′s 4.5.

No matter what model of the Lenovo 3000 you get you’ll be happy. They were such a popular model that finding things such as batteries, drivers, and other replacement parts is no problem. I also don’t know if I would rate this THE best laptop for school, but it’s definitely in my top 5 best laptops for college students. Mainly because you can get them used at such a good price right now and they are very reliable.
